thanks to Pedro (PEZ) from Selena chat for the info
David Byrne became a huge fan of latin music in the early 90's. He wrote an article for the New York Post (I think it was the NY Post) mentioning how he hated the term "international music" because artists like Selena and Los Tigres del Norte who sold millions of albums were shelved next to folk artists from Africa who had a very small following. I know this because I read the article.

Anyway, fast foward, David Byrne and Selena were both asked to record songs for the movie Don Juan De Marco. David asked Selenato do a duet with him since they were both working on the soundtrack. He recorded the entire song in English. He then invited Selena to come in and do whatever she wanted with the song. She translated her part into Spanish and sang backup on parts of the song and changed beats and notes, etc. So Selena improvised her part, and ended sounding amazing. When the record execs heard the song they didn't like it because it was part in Spanish, they thought it was gonna be all in English. David was very upset that it was cut from the movie and so he used it for another soundtrack, the movie Blue In the Face.

Selena's songs were cut from the Don Juan De Marco soundtrack, but were added to Selena's Dreaming of You. Time magazine wrote something like : the producers of the soundtrack must be kicking themselves they cut Selena's tracks (Tu Solo Tu because an instant #1 song in the Spanish charts and Dreaming of You Album went up to #1 in the American charts as we know).

Hope you got all you wanted to know :)
